A group of Indian organisations and groups are coming together to celebrate Holi on March 19, at the Reg Byrne Community Centre, in Wentworthville, New South Wales from 3 to 5pm.

Indian diasporic groups Hindus for Human Rights – ANZ, Turbans 4 Australia, Indian Crescent Society of Australia and The Humanism Project are organisations who proudly claim to represent “Indians of all faiths and no faith”. These groups are coming together to organise a unique event of inter-faith celebration of Holi – Holi Festival 2022 – Celebrating Unity in Diversity, in New South Wales tomorrow.

The event at Reg Byrne Community Centre, in Wentworthville, promises to be a revelry of India’s varied religious, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds and will include plenty of colours, entertainment, talk and food.

Holi is a very popular Hindu festival in India representing the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. It is celebrated with colours as a day to spread happiness and love. In some parts of the country Holi is also celebrated as thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest.

“As diasporic Indians, we have a proud history of celebrating our varied religious, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds; we are proud of our ethos of diversity and inclusiveness. We are also committed to promoting inter-faith camaraderie and dialogue within our communities, fostering social resilience and celebrating the Australian ethos of multiculturalism,” a statement released by Hindus for Human Rights – ANZ said.

The organisations have extended their invitation to anyone with “an interest in cross-cultural engagement” to participate.

“Participation in our event – will help us greatly in promoting social harmony within our communities and reclaim our cherished ethos of diversity and inclusiveness,” the press statement added.
