#GoForGold trended on Twitter after the Indian Women’s hockey team secured a spot in the Olympic semifinal.

There was an eruption of joy and congratulatory messages after the India women’s hockey team Monday created history on Monday by reaching the semifinals at the Olympics for the first time ever. India shocked Australia 1-0 with a Gurjit Kaur goal in the second quarter to reach the semifinals at Tokyo 2020.

The hashtag #GoForGold trended as fans and celebrities took to social media sending congratulatory messages and flooding Twitter with good luck messages for the upcoming matches.

The all-important goal of the quarter final match was scored from a penalty corner by Gurjit Kaur.

Several eminent personalities congratulated the team. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared a message of congratulations for the team.

Not only has PV Sindhu won a well deserved medal, but also we saw historic efforts by the men’s and women’s hockey teams at the Olympics. I’m optimistic that 130 crore Indians will continue to work hard to ensure India reaches new heights as it celebrates its Amrut Mahotsav.
