33-year-old Pratten man has been charged with the murder of 61-year-old Crows Nest woman Krishna Chopra.

Police have arrested and charged Simon Jones with the murder of Indian-origin woman Krishna Chopra. Chopra was found dead in a home on 31 January this year.
After a two-month-long investigation, the detectives arrested Mr Jones in Warwick on Thursday. He was taken to court on Friday morning.

According to ABC, Jones’ lawyers did not apply for bail, so he was sent to jail. Police have eight weeks to prepare a brief on the matter. The case will return to court on 20 May.

Ms Chopra lived alone and was last seen in Toowoomba on 20 January. Her body was found in her Park Road home north of Toowoomba 11 days later.

“The last confirmed sighting of 61-year-old Krishna was on 20 January in Toowoomba, but police believe she was alive on 21 January,” said the police

Police believed she died at least ten days before her body was found. Police confirmed the autopsy revealed she died from severe head injuries.

“As a result of the post-mortem [exam], we believe the injuries she sustained support our belief,” Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker had told the media.

“We’ve engaged the services of the Homicide Investigation Unit from Brisbane who are assisting us with our enquiries, mainly as to her movements on or about 21 January, and the people in the Crows Nest, Highfields and Toowoomba communities who she may have mixed with prior to her death,” he said.

BAr

Late last month, police appealed for public assistance to identify a metal bar that was located during a ground search near her home on Park Road.

Police have since determined it to be a Torsion bar from a particular vehicle which has been shortened to 47cm in length.

“This may suggest it was modified for a particular purpose, but the purpose of the modification remains unknown. The connection of the bar to Krishna also remains unknown, and police are looking to establish its origins to assist with ongoing investigations,” said the Queensland police.

Krishna was a volunteer who worked with Meals on Wheels, delivering meals and packing food containers to the community where she had lived since 2021, having moved from the Allora/Warwick area.
