The 2024 Henley Passport Index reveals that the Indian passport maintains its 80th global ranking, offering visa-free access to 62 countries, an increase from the previous year’s 57. While the standing has improved from two years ago, India falls behind the global average of 111 destinations accessible without a visa. Notable countries like France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain hold the top spot, with their passports permitting entry to 194 destinations.

The Indian passport retains its position as the 80th strongest globally, as reported by the 2024 Henley Passport Index. This ranking reflects the number of countries where Indian passport holders can enjoy visa-free access, a figure that has increased to 62 from the previous year’s 57. In comparison to two years ago when India held the 87th spot, there has been notable progress.

However, India has ground to cover when measured against the global average of 111 destinations accessible without a visa. In 2023, this average stood at 109, indicating a general improvement in global passport strength. Among countries with more powerful passports, European nations dominate the list. Noteworthy examples include Malaysia at the 12th spot, boasting visa-free access to 182 countries, and South Africa at the 53rd position with entry privileges to 108 nations. Despite facing sanctions, Russia secures the 51st spot, providing visa-free access to 119 countries.
