An Indian-origin Microsoft engineer, Vaniya Agarwal, has publicly resigned from the tech giant, condemning its leadership for allegedly supporting Israel’s military actions in Gaza through artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing services.

In a viral video, Agarwal confronted Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and CEO Satya Nadella during a company meeting, shouting, “Shame on you all!” before walking out. She accused Microsoft of hypocrisy, claiming its AI technology is being used by the Israeli military in the ongoing conflict, which has resulted in significant Palestinian civilian casualties.

“I refuse to be complicit in genocide,” Agarwal said in a LinkedIn post. “Microsoft talks about ethics but profits from war.” Her protest has sparked debate over corporate responsibility in global conflicts, with some praising her stance while others criticise her approach.

Microsoft has not directly addressed Agarwal’s allegations but stated it complies with all government regulations. The incident highlights growing dissent among employees at major tech firms over their roles in military contracts. Agarwal’s actions follow similar protests at Google and Amazon over ties to defence projects.

Her resignation has drawn attention in India and abroad, with many on social media calling her “brave” for taking a stand. Others, however, argue that such protests oversimplify complex geopolitical issues.

As the Gaza conflict continues, Agarwal’s protest raises questions about the ethical boundaries of tech companies in warfare.
