22-year-old Indian student Bharti Shahani was one of the nine people killed at a Travis Scott concert in Houston.

This was Bharti’s first time at a music concert. Student of computer science, Bharti had gone to the Travis Scott concert in Houston with her sister and cousin. But, unfortunately, she became the victim of a tragedy at the concert when a crowd surged toward the stage crushing many to their death.

22-year-old Bharti Shahani passed away after being on a ventilator for five days. The family says Bharti was crushed and suffocated at Astro World and had multiple heart attacks on her way to the hospital.

“God gave me, you know, a blessing. What happened? What happened to my blessing? I want my baby back. I won’t be able to live without her,” said Bharti’s heartbroken mother at a press conference.

Bharti’s family described the event as an atrocity. It has also been alleged that Bharti was the woman filmed being dropped from a stretcher on her head.

It remains unclear what caused the crowd to surge forward. However, witnesses described a frantic scene before and during the concert. One concertgoer, Neema Djavadzadeh, told the New York Times, the event was “hectic from the beginning.”

Bharti’s family believe that the tragedy was avoidable. Bharti’s cousin Mohit Bellani told reporters, “This suffocated us. They did this to Bharti. They suffocated Bharti. They did this to the 9-year-old boy right now in the ICU, who is fighting for his life. They did this to the other eight people who also lost their lives that night.”
