“We’ve illuminated our main library tower in support of our Indian students and friends (and others around the world) who are suffering from or affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” tweeted UNSW with a photo of the library illuminated in the tricolours.

“We hope you all stay safe, stay well, stay strong,” read the UNSW tweet.

Earlier, on Friday, the second flight packed with medical supplies and equipment to support India arrived in New Delhi.

This flight was carrying 1056 ventilators, 60 oxygen concentrators and other essential supplies. This adds to the more than 1000 ventilators and 43 oxygen concentrators Australia had sent last week.

India has thanked Australia for its timely help.

In a tweet, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, India, Arindam Bagchi, said, “Further deepening our longstanding ties. A consignment of 60 oxygen concentrators, 1056 ventilators and other medical supplies arrives from Australia. Value the support from our Comprehensive Strategic Partner Flag of Australia.”

The plane that was used to carry these supplies to India is bringing Australians from India.

“Australia continues to stand by India as they battle with a growing COVID-19 outbreak and humanitarian crisis and will continue to work in partnership with them to meet urgent needs,” Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said in a Facebook post.

Earlier on Friday, several Sydney-based Australian organisations had jointly organised a vigil to express solidarity with India.
