The Australian-Indian community has joined hands to support the repatriation of the mortal remains of an international student who lost his life in a truck accident in Sydney.

“Emergency services were called to the M7, near the Camden Walley Way off-ramp, at Prestons, about 6.30 am (Wednesday 28 April 2021), after reports two trucks had collided,” NSW police said in a statement.

According to Liverpool police, the driver of a Mitsubishi table-top truck – laden with gas cylinders – was trapped in the wreckage and died at the scene.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Rishabh Verma hailed from Moga in Punjabi. He was studying in Sydney.

His friends have started a petition to raise funds to repatriate his body back to India.

He was an intelligent, loving and a great son. Life did not give him enough time to do something big.

Fund raising to support the family in India

The petition started by Verma’s friends says, “Now at this time I want to say to this world that we must stand with his family and support them. I request everyone with my whole heart to donate as much as you can so we can support his family and bring him home soon.”

Vishaldeep Singh, who worked with Rishabh Verma for more than year says he cannot believe his friend is gone.

“He arrived in Sydney some two years back. We worked together. He had become my family here. I cannot imagine he is gone,” said Mr Singh

Over A$27,00 were raised on the first day of the campaign.
