Following the deaths of two of his children in their Montreal home, a 45-year-old Indian-origin Canadian Sikh has been charged with two charges of first-degree murder, which is defined as the deliberate killing of one or more individuals by planned methods.

A PTI report claims that on October 17, the accused, Kamaljit Arora, is alleged to have murdered his daughter and son, who were then 11 and 13, respectively. Additionally, he is accused of allegedly strangling his wife Rama Rani Arora at their home in the Ste-Dorothee neighbourhood of Laval, north of Montreal. The two kid’s elder sister was the one who initially alerted the police to the tragedy.

One of their neighbours, Annie Charpentier, said that the kid knocked on her door as she was walking home from work and asked her to dial 911. She recalled that the young girl had come out crying and had told her, “I need a phone, I need a phone.”

The children were discovered inside the residence in critical condition when the cops arrived. The kids were transferred to a hospital, where the medical staff pronounced them dead.

Although his health has subsequently stabilised, their father was also transported to the hospital in a severe state while being held by the police.

He hasn’t been able to communicate at all since his imprisonment on Monday night. His trial was continued from Tuesday due to the judge’s determination that he was not fit to appear in court, according to the report. The court was hoping, according to the report, that things would be better by the time the accused came to court on Wednesday morning to properly respond to the charges.

Stephane Boyer, the mayor of Laval, tweeted his condolences to the family and said that “all of Laval is in mourning.”

“What I want to say to people is if there’s something in your life going on, don’t wait, call. There’s a line in Laval, 2-1-1, that you can call. Whatever the problem is, there are people on the other end that can be there to help,” the tweet further said.

Arora was scheduled to appear in court on October 19, but since the prosecution claims he is not physically fit to do so, the hearing has been postponed.

Neighbours who were horrified and distressed claimed they were still processing what occurred in their neighbourhood.

“I was unable to absorb it mentally. What kind of parent would abuse their own kids like that? Nobody should have to deal with something like this,” A TV station in Brampton was informed by Parm Kamal Singh, a distant relative of the victims.

Police have not yet made the causes of death or information about the circumstances surrounding the killings public.

According to the Toronto Star, Laval police Constable Erika Landry indicated that the theory under consideration by detectives is that the children’s deaths were caused by domestic violence but withheld further information.
