Air India’s new advisory for international arrivals: to recheck-in baggage

The advisory issued by Air India says that this was being implemented in accordance with regulatory requirements, regardless of through check-in at their port of origin, until they arrived at their final destination.

Air India, India’s former national carrier, now owned by the Tata group, has issued a fresh guidelines to international inbound passengers arriving in India advising them that they must now check in their luggage again if they are connecting to a domestic destination in India after arriving at any airport in the country.

The advisory issued by Air India says that this was being implemented in accordance with regulatory requirements, regardless of through check-in at their port of origin, until they arrived at their final destination.

This means that passengers flying to India must now collect their baggage from the international arrival belt at the first port of entry and check their baggage in again at the domestic terminal for their connecting flight.

The airline posted ton its official Twitter handle, “Important information for passengers arriving in India from foreign destinations.” The post further added, “Passengers arriving from international destinations and connecting to a domestic destination are requested to recheck in their bags at the first port of entry. This is as per the regulatory requirement regardless of through check-in done till the final destination.”

The advisory was further explained by saying, “Example: Passengers coming from USA Passengers connecting to Jaipur via Delhi are Advisory required to recheck-in their bags at Delhi after clearing Immigration and customs.”
