Doctors have called for immediate heart surgery, but the expense is beyond the family’s means.

An Indian man on a trip to visit his daughter in Australia, fell severely ill and had to be hospitalised. According to his family members the cost of the surgery is beyond their capability and so they have started a crowdfunding drive to save his life.

Labh Singh arrived in Australia from overseas but became unwell a few days ago. His daughter Soni rushed him to the emergency department of Barwon Health Hospital in Geelong, Victoria, where he was admitted in the intensive care unit. After assessing the patient’s health, doctors at the hospital have decided to perform immediate heart surgery. The estimated cost of treatment, that Soni has been provided with, is a whopping $89,692.50. The rate quoted is only an estimate and fees are subject to change based on treatment provided.

The quote covers hospital stay, theatre fees and estimated prosthesis costs, which is beyond the means of Soni and her family. Desperate to seek treatment for her father, the distraught daughter has appealed to donors on GoFundMe, a crowdfunding platform that allows people to raise money for situations like this, to help save her father’s life.

Her appeal on the platform reads: “Hello all beautiful souls, this is Soni. I am fundraising for my dad (Labh Singh) …he came from overseas and got sick few weeks ago…Please, please help me, your single cent could save his life…I need your help to save his life.” So far, the GoFundMe appeal has raised $4721 from 80 donors, a far cry from the $90,000 that is required. People have donated amounts ranging from $5 to $1,000. If you want to donate to help Soni, please click here.
