Queensland has added additional postcodes to its designated regional areas enabling employers to hire overseas workers in the health, aged care, childcare and other in-demand sectors crucial for the Australian economy.
Migration expert Gisella Ali from Melbourne based Visa 2 Land says there has been a significant increase in Queensland Designated Regional areas.
“The addition of more postcodes under Designated Regional area will allow temporary visa holders to access regional visa 491 and 494, which lead to permanent residency,” Ms Ali told NRI Affairs.
List of postcodes that have been included are:
4019 to 4022, 4025, 4037, 4074, 4076 to 4078, 4300 to 4301, 4303 to 4305, 4500 to 4506, 4508 to 4512, 4514 to 4516 and 4521

There are two skilled regional provisional visas available for skilled migrants, and dependent family members, who want to live and work in regional Australia.
- Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – for people nominated by a State or Territory government or sponsored by an eligible family member to live and work in regional Australia.
- Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) – for people sponsored by an employer in regional Australia.
- Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191) from November 2022.
- To be eligible for permanent residence, holders of the new skilled regional provisional visas will need to show they have lived and worked in regional Australia while holding one of these visas.
