The communication said that the embassy was in constant touch with authorities regarding safety and security measures of all Indian nationals.
As the crisis in Ukraine intensifies into full-fledged war, the Indian Embassy in Russia has issued a brief note with the title: ‘Guidelines for Indian students studying in Russia’. It states that, in the present scenario, the government sees no security reasons for Indian students to leave the country.
It was issued in the wake of the Embassy receiving numerous messages from Indians studying in universities in Russia asking whether they should continue to stay in the country.
“The embassy would like to reassure all students that at present we see no security reasons for them to leave,” it said.

The communication further stated that the embassy is in regular touch with relevant authorities regarding safety and security of all Indian nationals in Russia.
However, it noted that certain disruptions of banking services and direct flight connectivity from Russia to India were taking place.
“If students have concerns regarding these aspects and would like to travel back to India, they may consider doing so,” the communique said.
Imposition of sanctions on several Russian banks by NATO and other European nations in response to Russian aggression in Ukraine, have caused major disruptions to its banking system.
With regards to academic programs, the embassy said that it has been informed by a number of universities that classes have already been shifted to online distance learning mode.
“Students are advised to exercise their discretion in consultation with their respective universities on the appropriate course of action regarding continuation of their academic activities without disruption,” the guideline read.
Meanwhile, Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia spoke on the telephone with India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri. According to reports in Russian media, they discussed “current and potential joint projects in the fuel and energy industry.”
They also discussed cooperation between the two countries in education, in particular, expanding opportunities for Indian students to study at Russian universities.
