Omicron: India makes 7-day home quarantine mandatory for all international arrivals

All international travellers will have to undergo a 7-day home quarantine in India, the Indian government has announced.

Amid increasing Omicron cases, the Indian government has announced that all international travellers will undergo a mandatory 7-day home quarantine upon arrival.

India’s Ministry of Home Affairs issued new guidelines on Friday, adding that the Standard Operating Procedure shall be valid with effect from 11 January 2022 till further orders.

The Union Health Ministry, in a notification, said that all international travellers would need to undergo 7-day mandatory quarantine on arrival in India, even if they test negative for Covid-19 at the airport.

They will then have to undertake an RT-PCR test on the 8th day of arrival in the country.

India’s registered 117,100 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, ending at 9 am on Friday. It includes 3,007 cases of the Omicron variant.

302 people lost their lives due to the Coronavirus taking India’s death toll to 483,178.
