EVENT: Conversation with Neetu | Women’s Rights Campaigner & Acid Attack Survivor
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Neetu, a women’s rights campaigner and acid attack survivor, is on a mission to change the world for women and girls. She is the founder of ‘Wake up’, a campaign that aims to address gender bias and its role in how violence against women and girls plays out.

Born and brought up in Agra, India, Neetu has campaigned for rights of acid attack survivors, and with her mother Geeta, opened ‘Sheroes Hangout Cafe’ in Agra in 2014 with the Stop Acid Attacks and the Chhanv Foundation. Sheroes employs survivors of acid violence like Neetu and Geeta to give them a livelihood in a society where survivors of acid violence are shunned. Geeta and Neetu’s spirit, humour and fierce determination to chase a shared dream of ending violence against women inspired the documentary ‘Geeta’ which world premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival earlier this year.

“ I don’t understand why people keep saying it will take another 100 years to make things better for women, when it only takes a split second to change your thinking.”

Neetu

Neetu is currently in Melbourne to work on her social impact campaign ‘Wake Up’. Ambitious, witty and compelling, Neetu will be in conversation with social justice advocate Tina Brunet on the 13th of October (at 7:30 PM Sydney/2:00 PM New Delhi), where she will talk about her experiences, activism and her campaign for change. Tickets available at events.humanitix.com.
