According to Chinese authorities, Aman Nagsen, a 20-year-old student in China’s Tianjin, was murdered.

A foreign national has been arrested in connection to the death of an Indian student, who was found dead on 29 July in his dormitory at the university in Tianjin, a city located about 100 km from Beijing.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that Aman’s death was a homicide.

Aman Nagsen hailed from Gaya in Bihar. He was a student of Business Administration at the Tianjin Foreign Studies University. He was found dead on 29 July.

Indian news agency PTI reported that, around 8:00 pm, Tianjin police received a call that an “Indian student was lying on the dormitory floor with no sign of life.”

The Chinese Foreign Ministry officials told PTI: “The initial investigation of the public security organ found it to be a case of homicide, and the suspect is another foreign student of the university. Compulsory measures have been taken on the suspect, and the case is still under further investigation.”

“Relevant Chinese competent authorities have notified the Indian Embassy in Beijing of the situation of the case on July 30 and 31 respectively and maintained communication with the Embassy,” it said.

More than 23,000 Indian students study at different universities in China. Most of them left during the Coronavirus pandemic. However, Aman Nagsen was one of the few who decided to stay.

Indian officials are working out the arrangements to repatriate Aman’s mortal remains to India.

According to Prasar Bharati, the autopsy was conducted on Tuesday and death certificate is expected in one week.

“Thereafter, transfer of the dead body to India will be arranged. Nationality of the suspected foreign student at TFSU is not revelaed and the motive behind the crime is not yet established,” Prasar Bharati said in a tweet.
