Victoria’s Skilled Migration Program for 2021-22 will open to new Registrations of Interest (ROIs) on 7 July 2021.

The Department of Home Affairs has allocated Victoria with 3,500 subclass 190 places and 500 subclass 491 places.

Victoria says it will use STEMM skills to select candidates.

” The state government said in a statement, ‘This year we will be selecting candidates who are currently living and working in Victoria, using their STEMM skills in a target sector,” it said.

According to the state government, the significant changes to the 2021-22 program are:

· The removal of the minimum experience and hours worked requirement.

· An increase in the number of target sectors

· Applicants must have STEMM skills and have a Skill Level 1 or 2 occupations. Applicants for subclass 491 nomination may also have a Skill Level 3 occupation using their STEMM skills.

“If you submitted an ROI for the 2020-21 program and were not selected, you must submit a new ROI in 2021-22,” Victorian officials have said.

Is Skilled Visa Subclass 189 dead already?

Melbourne-based migration agent Chaman Preet says the changes may leave many applicants disappointed.

“It’s an exciting time for visa hopeful from the STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) field but disappointing or others. The announcement is very consistent with the approach Victoria has taken in the last year,” said Ms Preet.

“For people working in other sectors and pinning hope on Victoria, it may be timely to change strategy since it is likely that this approach will stay consistent for the remaining financial year.”

Victoria’s Business Innovation and Investment Program have received 1,750 places this year.
