Life has suddenly taken a turn for the worse for Karmjit Khosa, an Indian-national on a student visa in Australia. She has a 10-month-old baby, and her husband is stuck in India due to Covid-restrictions.

Earlier this month, Ms Khosa had an accident that damaged her right knee.

‘I had an accident while returning from the job,’ Ms Khosa told NRI Affairs.

“I really need help. I had an accident, so my right knee is broken. Then, I had surgery, and the doctor advised me not to work for 3-4 months. I want to apply for a new visa. It’s challenging for me. I have too much stress. Please help me,” appeals Ms Khosa.

Calls to exempt partners and children from ban on travelling to Australia

She lives in Queensland and trying to raise funds for her treatment. Her friend Ms Harpreet Gill Brar has set up a fundraiser to support Ms Khosa, who is struggling to make ends meet.

Karamjit Khosa’s husband cannot travel to Australia due to the travel restrictions on temporary visa holders.

The travel restrictions have left thousands of temporary visa holders in limbo as they cannot travel for work and study.

“I am so stressed. Work and study, with a baby to look after is arduous. Can you please make an appeal for my husband so that he could join us in Australia,” said Ms Khosa before breaking down.

International students in Australia are not entitled to any social support.
