Australian PM Anthony Albanese has officially announced his attendance at the forthcoming G20 summit set to take place in New Delhi next month.

Albanese is set to join the ranks of G-20 leaders who have marked their calendars for the summit, which will convene in New Delhi this September under India’s leadership.

Renowned as the foremost international platform for fostering worldwide economic collaboration, the G20 summit will see heads of state and government concentrating on steering the global economy towards robust, sustainable, and adaptable expansion, as conveyed through a statement issued by the office of the Australian Prime Minister.

“Deepening Australia’s engagement with Southeast Asia is a key priority for my Government. Our futures are intertwined – so it’s essential that we work together to achieve a peaceful, stable and prosperous region,” stated the Australian Prime Minister’s office, citing Albanese.

“It is more important than ever that Australia works closely with international partners, including through multilateral economic forums like the G20, to address shared challenges and opportunities,” added Albanese.

“Australia is invested in and committed to the Indo-Pacific to enhance growth and prosperity, stability and respect for sovereignty and lasting peace,” he further articulated.

Albanese conveyed his pride in Australia’s upcoming role as the host of a Special Summit commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations in 2024.

He remarked, “I look forward to welcoming ASEAN leaders to Australia in March next year.”

Albanese’s travel itinerary for September includes visits to Indonesia, the Philippines, and India. These trips aim to facilitate dialogues with regional leaders on global predicaments and to advance Australia’s economic, security, and climate objectives.

Marked on the calendar is the Australian Prime Minister’s participation in the 3rd Annual ASEAN-Australia Summit and the 18th East Asia Summit, set to unfold in Jakarta from September 6–7. Australia’s robust alliance with ASEAN and its member nations is pivotal for attaining shared prosperity, security, and harmony in the vicinity.

As part of the Australian Government’s drive to elevate associations with Southeast Asian nations, Albanese’s travel agenda includes Manila, marking the first instance of an Australian Prime Minister undertaking a bilateral visit to the Philippines since 2003.

In a pivotal engagement scheduled for September 8, the Prime Minister is set to confer with Philippines President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr, honing in on the augmentation of collaboration across vital domains such as defence, maritime security, development, and education.

Highlighting the cornerstone of this alliance, the Prime Minister emphasised, “Our partnership with the Philippines is built on close defence and security cooperation, increasing economic relations and warm personal ties, including through the vibrant Filipino-Australian community. I look forward to visiting Manila to meet President Marcos and affirm our partnership.”

In a parallel stride of global governance, India embraced the mantle of the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022.
