Indian-American Neal Mohan is set to take over as the CEO of YouTube after Susan Wojcicki, the current CEO, announced her departure to focus on personal projects

Wojcicki joined Google as it was still in its early stages and played a key role in the acquisition of YouTube in 2006. She has been the CEO of YouTube for the past nine years and is regarded as one of the most influential female executives in the industry.

In her announcement, Wojcicki praised Mohan for his expertise in the product, business, creator, user communities, and employees, stating that he will be an excellent leader for YouTube.

Thank you, @SusanWojcicki. It's been amazing to work with you over the years. You've built YouTube into an extraordinary home for creators and viewers. I'm excited to continue this awesome and important mission. Looking forward to what lies ahead… https://t.co/Rg5jXv1NGb

Mohan has a strong background in advertising, having worked at DoubleClick and led the integration of the company into Google. He has overseen YouTube’s efforts to compete with TikTok and played a pivotal role in some of YouTube’s biggest products, including YouTube TV, YouTube Music, and Premium. Additionally, Mohan has been working to address extremist content on the platform and testified before Congress on the matter. He was also sought after by Twitter 12 years ago before Google paid him a $100 million stock bonus to remain with the company.

Despite his promotion, Mohan continues to serve as a board member for two other companies, 23andMe and Stitch Fix.
