A forklift driver has been charged with manslaughter in the incident that caused the death of an Indian-origin Sydney-resident, Baljinder Singh.

40-year-old Baljinder Singh died in a fatal workplace incident in western Sydney on 1 February 2021.

Emergency services were called to a business on Links Road in St Mary’s after Mr Singh was pinned between a truck and a forklift. NSW Ambulance paramedics attended to the 40-year-old man’s injuries, but he could not be saved.

After an extensive investigation, detectives from the Nepean Police Area Command charged one of Mr Singh’s 59-year-old co-workers with manslaughter. He has been issued a court attendance notice for the charge. Officers allege he was operating the forklift at the business premises before the fatal incident occurred.

Mr Singh, a “loveable and kind-hearted person” who worked hard to support his family, is survived by a wife and three daughters.

The community had raised more than $28,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to assist his family with funeral costs and other needs.

“He was a man you could always count on, whatever you needed, Baljinder was there without question,” the organiser wrote on the GoFundMe page.
