On June 12, in an attempt to address the concerns of the Indian students who had to quit their studies due to the Russia-Ukraine war, the deputy chief of mission of the Russian Embassy in New Delhi announced that the students would be invited to study in Russian universities without them losing out on their previous academic years.

Roman Babushkin’s statement came as a response to the questions posed by the reporters regarding the fate of 20,000 students who fled Ukraine after the Russian invasion that started on 24 February.

He added that the students can start from exactly where they have left their respective courses.

Adding to his statement,  Ratheesh C Nair, the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation and Director of the Russian House in Thiruvananthapuram informed the students who had scholarships that it was possible that the scholarships would apply in the Russian universities as well.

Answering the questions related to the war, Babushkin claimed that the Russian administration’s decisions were justified because the Ukrainian regime was protecting neo-Nazis.

“It was a ‘Lakshman Rekha‘ for Russia, a red line of red lines which was crossed by the West,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.

He also accused the US of prolonging the war because its defence companies from there were monetarily benefiting from supplying weapons to Ukraine.
