The US Embassy in India has recently made an announcement that could bring relief to travellers seeking to renew their US visas. According to the embassy’s statement, individuals who have received “clearance received” or “department authorisation” on their previous visas are now eligible to apply for a new visa through the interview waiver process.

This latest update is part of the Department of State’s ongoing efforts to simplify and expedite the visa application process for applicants.

More good news for U.S. visa renewals! Travelers with "clearance received" or "department authorization" on their previous visas can now use the interview waiver process to apply for a new visa. For additional interview waiver criteria, please see our website. pic.twitter.com/SW0X5U5sHa

Many travellers who were previously obligated to attend an in-person interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate will find this interview waiver process to be a welcome relief. Not only does it save time, but it also alleviates the stress of having to go through the entire visa application process again.

To qualify for the interview waiver process, applicants must renew their visa in the same category within 48 months of its expiration. Moreover, consular officers are now authorised to exempt the requirement of an in-person interview for those seeking F, H-1, H-3, H-4, non-blanket L, M, O, P, Q, and academic J visas, who have previously been issued any type of visa, provided that they are applying for a visa in their country of nationality or residence.

However, the exemption does not apply to applicants who have a previous refusal that was not subsequently waived or overcome. In addition, adjudicating consular officers may request an in-person interview if they require additional information from applicants.

It’s essential for those applying for a visa through the interview waiver process to note that it may take up to three weeks from the moment their passport has been accepted at the Visa Application Centre until it is delivered, or they receive notification that it is ready for pickup. During this time, it is not feasible to withdraw the passport or expedite the processing under any circumstances.

Overall, this new update to the interview waiver process is excellent news for travellers who want to renew their US visas quickly and easily. For more interview waiver criteria and information, applicants are urged to visit the US Embassy‘s website.
