The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the first set of shortlists for the ICC Awards 2024, featuring nominees for the prestigious Emerging Men’s and Women’s Cricketer of the Year awards. Among the eight nations represented in these highly competitive categories, India’s Shreyanka Patil stands out as a nominee for the Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year award.

The 21-year-old all-rounder from Karnataka had a stellar year in international cricket, particularly in the shorter formats. Patil showcased her prowess with both bat and ball, delivering impactful performances for India in a year marked by intense competition on the global stage.

Joining her in the women’s category are South Africa’s Annerie Dercksen, Scotland’s Saskia Horley, and Ireland’s Freya Sargent—all of whom impressed with their standout contributions in 2024.

In the men’s category, Pakistan’s Saim Ayub and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis bring strong South Asian representation to the shortlist. Ayub’s consistent run-scoring across formats and Mendis’s record-breaking feats with the bat for Sri Lanka earned them well-deserved nominations. They are up against England’s Gus Atkinson, who had a dream start to his Test career, and West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph, who turned heads with his fiery pace.

The ICC Awards 2024 will feature 12 individual categories, with shortlists for seven more awards set to be announced over the next two days. Winners will be determined through a combination of fan votes and the deliberations of the ICC Voting Academy, a panel comprising international cricket media experts.

Fans can cast their votes for their favorite nominees on the ICC website. The winners will be revealed in late January 2025, culminating a year of exceptional international cricket.
