The Indian government has announced that the embassy in Ukraine will ‘temporarily’ relocate to Poland.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement Sunday that India will be temporarily relocating its embassy in Ukraine to Poland due to the “rapidly deteriorating security situation.”

“In view of the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Ukraine, including attacks in the western parts of the country, it has been decided that the Indian Embassy in Ukraine will be temporarily relocated in Poland,” the statement said.

“The situation will be reassessed in the light of further developments,” it added.

On March 1, India had said it was setting up an embassy in Lviv, Ukraine after all its citizens had been evacuated from the capital Kyiv due to the conflict.

Ukraine’s government said earlier this month that it had helped in the evacuation of about 20,000 Indian students from the areas under attack by Russian forces following their invasion of Ukraine but many were still trapped.
