Kaniz Balsara, eldest sister of yesteryear superstar Madhubala, landed at Mumbai airport – penniless and without any support.

Kaniz was allegedly kicked out by her widowed daughter-in-law from their home in Auckland, New Zealand and put on a flight to Mumbai alone.

‘India’s Marilyn Monroe’, as Madhubala was widely known, was a popular star of Hindi cinema who appeared in over 70 Hindi films in a career that spanned from the 1940s to the 1960s. Decades later, she is still held in high regard for her beauty as well as her portrayal of strong and independent women on the screen. She died prematurely in 1969, at the age of 39, from a congenital heart disorder.

Madhubala is survived by two sisters Kaniz Balsara and Madhur Bhushan.

According a The Times of India report, Kaniz was allegedly kicked out by her daughter-in-law Sameena from their Auckland home and put on a flight to Mumbai alone. Kaniz landed in Mumbai on the evening of 29 January. Perveez, her daughter who lives in Mumbai, was informed by a cousin. She alleged that her mother was mistreated by the daughter-in-law Sameena for several years, according to the TOI report.

According to Perveez, the airport authorities informed her that her mother was penniless and couldn’t afford a mandatory COVID-19 (RTPCR) test, the report says.

Madhur added that her sister’s money had also been taken away.

Kaniz had moved to New Zealand 17 years ago with the family of her son, Farook. According to the TOI report, it is alleged that she did not get along with her daughter-in-law.
