Deepak-Raj Gupta, the first Indian-born member of the Australian Capital Territory’s Legislative Assembly, has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of his service to the community of Canberra.

A well known name in Canberra’s multi-cultural community, Mr Gupta has been a former Labor MLA for Yerrabi electorate in north Canberra and a past president of the Australia India Business Council ACT chapter and a former member of the AIBC National Executive Board of Directors.

A graduate of the University of Adelaide, Professor Prithvipall Singh Bhathal trained in histopathology at the Royal Melbourne, Royal Children’s and Alfred Hospitals.
