Brisbane police says a brawl involving around 40 men armed with various weapons, including bats and poles, on Daw Street has left many injured.

Police are investigating a significant street disturbance in Brisbane. Around 10.30 pm last night, police were called on Daw Street at Runcorn.

Police say they immediately rendered tactical first aid to a 36-year-old awaiting the arrival of paramedics.

“He suffered significant injuries to his hand, neck and head,” reads a statement released by the police on Wednesday.pi

“A group of men attempted to drive away from the scene in a Nissan X-trail, however, they were intercepted by the dog squad on Nathan Street,” it said.

Eight men, including the 36-year-old man, were taken to hospital.

Seven men, aged between 22 and 38, were taken into custody. An eighth man was tracked, located and arrested in Cactus Street. All men have since been released as investigations continue.

Police say there was growing tension between the two groups.

“What we do know is that they are two groups which were known to each other,” a police officer told reporters.

Similar incidents had happened in Sydney last year when two groups of Indian men attacked each other in western suburbs.

NRI Affairs has learned that the groups involved were from the local Punjabi community.

“It was between the 2 Punjabi groups over the conflicts in Logan gurudwara,” a community member told NRI Affairs.
