The Humanism Project (THP), a pan-Australian social justice advocacy organisation rooted in the Indian-Australian diaspora, brings together human rights activists, academics, and faith and non-faith community members committed to human dignity, pluralism and universal human rights. Drawing on members’ lived experiences of racism, caste discrimination, Islamophobia and religious prejudice, the organisation says its submission is offered “in a spirit of solidarity across communities” grounded in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
THP has lodged a submission to Australia’s Royal Commission on Antisemitism, welcoming the inquiry while arguing that lasting social cohesion requires a comprehensive response to all forms of racism rather than treating antisemitism in isolation. The submission supports stronger protections for Jewish Australians, recommends adoption of the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism (JDA) in preference to the IHRA working definition, calls for Palestinian voices to be heard by the Commission, advocates implementation of the Australian Human Rights Commission’s National Anti-Racism Framework, and urges recognition of caste discrimination within Australia’s anti-racism architecture.
