An Indian man has received a jail sentence for filming a couple having sex in a public toilet at a park in Singapore.

Channel News Asia reported on Tuesday that an Indian national, Karthik Kuppusamy, has been sentenced to a 17-week jail by a Singapore court for voyeurism.

According to the report, 36-year-old Karthik filmed a couple showering and having sex in a cubicle.

He followed a couple to a public toilet at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and stood on a basin to film on the evening of 28 October 2020, the court was told.

Karthik filmed more than two videos and clicked some photos too.

“He returned to the same spot two days later. After waiting for some time, he saw the couple enter a shower cubicle. He went to the same adjacent toilet, climbed up on the basin, filmed them engaging in sexual intercourse and took photos of them,” CAN reported.
He was caught by another victim’s boyfriend, who called the police. Police arrested Karthik on 20 November and seized his phone, which had other recordings he had made illegally.

Voyeurism is a serious crime in Singapore, and the maximum punishment for such crimes was doubled from one to two years in 2020.

“This evidences Parliament’s intent that such offences should be punished more severely, particularly in response to the perceived inadequacy of previous penalties in deterring would-be offenders,” said the prosecutor.
