The Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) has announced its 2025 Convention will focus on the diaspora’s growing influence in emerging technologies, bringing together Indian origin innovators and professionals from over 35 countries to Brisbane, Australia this March.

The three-day convention, themed “The Indian Diaspora’s Role in Shaping Future Technologies,” will feature expert panels on cutting-edge fields including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, nanotechnology, and biomedical innovations. The event will take place at the Brisbane Marriott from March 28-30, 2025.

“This year’s focus reflects the increasing prominence of the Indian diaspora in driving technological advancement worldwide,” said Umesh Chandra, Convention Convener. “We’re creating a platform for knowledge exchange between non-resident Indians (NRIs) and persons of Indian origin (PIOs) who are at the forefront of these transformative technologies.”

Beyond technology, the convention will address broader diaspora issues through parallel sessions on women’s contributions, youth engagement, and academic collaboration. The event will culminate in an awards banquet recognising exceptional achievements across professional fields including sciences, medicine, legal, arts, and public service.

GOPIO, established in 1989 as a non-partisan, secular organisation, has evolved from its initial focus on human rights advocacy to becoming a global network fostering collaboration among the Indian diaspora. The organisation currently maintains over 100 chapters across 35 countries.

The convention will be followed by an optional week-long cultural tour to Fiji, New Zealand, and Sydney, allowing delegates to connect with local Indian communities in the Pacific region.

Registration for the convention is now open, with early bird rates available. The organisation is currently accepting speaker proposals and nominations for its achievement awards, with submissions due by March 1st, 2025.
