Goulburn-based Indian-origin man, who was set to start a new job on Monday, died on the weekend.

33-year-old Akram Syed was killed in a collision on Taralga Road outside the NSW Police Driver Training School.

Police said a white ute travelling north collided with Mr Syed’s Ford sedan, which killed Mr Syed on the spot. The ute’s driver, a 27-year-old Goulburn man, escaped any injuries.

Goulburn Post has reported that Mr Syed had driven out of Taralga Road.

According to The Post, Mr Syed was the only son in a family of three. His two sisters and parents live in Hyderabad and have been informed about the incident.

“It’s an awful shock. Akram loved his parents, so it’s a big nightmare for them. He was a very good-natured boy and very friendly,” The Post quoted a family member as saying.

“When he moved to Goulburn, he made a lot of friends. He was very happy there, was enjoying his work and thought Goulburn was a peaceful place.”

Mr Syed arrived in Australia in 2009 in the hope of a better life and work opportunities. He studied to be a mechanic in Melbourne. Instead, he moved to Goulburn last December on a regional visa.

He was due to start a new job on Monday and was applying for his permanent Australian residency.
