Indian-origin, a 22-year-old man has admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend in 2021 and burying her body in a shallow grave in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, according to media sources.

According to a report on Tuesday by 9News, Tarikjot Singh was charged with killing Indian nursing student Jasmeen Kaur (21), who was his ex-girlfriend and kidnapped in March 2021. In the South Australian Supreme Court on Tuesday, Singh, who had earlier entered a not-guilty plea, admitted to the offence.

Before he kidnapped Jasmeen Kaur from her place of work, Singh is said to have stalked the woman for weeks, according to a 7News story. On the evening of March 5, 2021, Jasmeen Kaur disappeared. She was reported missing the next morning.

Days later, 430 kilometres from Adelaide, her body was discovered in a little burial in the Flinders Ranges.

Jasmeen Kaur resided in Flinders Park with her aunt and uncle and worked as a care provider while pursuing a career in nursing.

The family of Jasmeen Kaur expressed their appreciation for the plea outside of court. Nothing will bring Jasmeen back, but we are happy that she will receive some justice, Ramandeep Kharoud, Kaur’s aunt, was quoted as saying by 7News.

According to the BBC, Singh will return to court in April for directions hearing and then appear in May to present his case for sentencing.

In South Australia, there is a minimum 20-year sentence requirement for murder.

Just before 10 p.m. on March 5, 2022, Kaur finished her shift at Southern Cross Homes in North Plympton, when, according to the police, she was “taken by force” by a male.

Kaur’s mother Rashpal Gathwal had told 7NEWS months after her death, “I regret the day I said yes to sending my daughter to Australia. I miss her every day.”

Kaur, who was originally from India, was residing with her relatives in Adelaide while working as an aged care assistant and going to school to become a nurse, according to 9 News.

They called her family to enquire about her absence from the shift, and she was reported missing.
