Sharif Rehman Khan’s friends and family, an Indian-origin software engineer shot dead in St.Louis, Missouri, have decided to have his funeral rites here in St.Louis.

Earlier, Khan’s friends had started a campaign to raise funds to send Khan’s mortal remains back to India.

However, the gofundme campaign was ended on Saturday following the family’s decision to hold the rites as soon as possible.

“We, Sharif’s friends, initiated this campaign for his funeral rites. Emotions ran high, as we all wanted one of his last desires fulfilled, that is, for him to be back in India.

“Having said that, respecting his family’s wishes and the Islamic faith, the burial must take place as quickly as possible after death. Thus it becomes imperative to have his funeral rites here in St.Louis,” reads the message posted on the Gofundme page.

32-year-old Sharif Rehman Khan, who hailed from Bhopal in India, was shot dead in the US last Wednesday.

The University City Police Department has arrested a local man.

Local media organisation KMOV reports the University City Police responded to shots fired call around 1 p.m. in the 700 block of West Canterbury, where they found Sharif Khan, 32, of Creve Coeur, shot.

“On Thursday, University City police said their investigation led to the arrest of Cole Miller, 23, of Maplewood. Miller is charged with murder, armed criminal action and receiving stolen property,” KMOV reported.

“A tragic incident has caused a deep gash in the lives of everyone close to him. With great sorrow, we’d like to share the news of his untimely death,” Khan’s friends have said.
