The children of the Australian-Indian couple, who died in a road accident in India, have arrived home to Adelaide.
The family had travelled to India from Australia and had landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad around midnight on Tuesday. They had reportedly hired a taxi to Reddygudem. In the early hours, their car hit a retaining wall of a culvert. The NRI couple Hemam ‘Hems’ Baradar (40) and Rama (35) died on the spot while their two children were had been recovering from their injuries at a hospital in India.
The children, Bhavagna, 9, and Palvith, 6, were accompanied by their new full time guardians, Miriam and Sam Kaladari, who were close friends of the deceased parents in Adelaide.
The children were welcomed with loud cheers, as the arrived through the gates at Adelaide airport, by members of the Indian community in Adelaide, who were waiting with gifts.
The children’s grandparents, who are aged in their 70s and do not have passports, were unable to care for them in India.
Mr and Mrs Kaladari, who will take on full guardianship of the children, had earlier flown from Adelaide to Hyderabad to bring the children home.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $246,000 to pay for Mr. & Mrs. Hems Rama’s funeral, their mortgage and the children’s medical expenses in India.
