Former Indian Davis Cup player Aswin Vijayaragavan, who moved to Australia in 2016, is South Australia’s State League Player of The Year of 2021-22.

Aswin Vijayaragavan, who is among the top 100 tennis players in Australia, has become the top state league player in South Australia. Aswin has achieved this ranking only in five years as he moved to Australia in 2016 as a student.

However, this is just another milestone in his journey, which has seen landmarks such as playing for India in the Davis Cup team, India Men’s ranking #Six and an Indian national champion.

Ashwin plays for South Australia’s Tea Tree Gully Tennis Club where he is also working as their main coach developing young talent.

He played 11 matches and scored a total of 11.6 points, 1.6 points higher than his follower.

Points are only awarded for a win, and the placing is determined on average, with points earned divided by matches played.

Aswin says it is always good to excel in another country.

“I always feel that Apne Desh Ka Naam Roshan Ho Raha hai. Whatever problems you have back home but you are still Indian at heart. You come here, you do well, and they say a guy from India is doing well; it is not only good for you, but it is also good for the community around you. People out there will be pleased. You are not making yourself very happy, and you are making others happy too,” he told NRI Affairs.
