Australia to receive 16 products from Kerala farmers

The first consignment of the 16 value-added products from Kerala will soon arrive in Melbourne.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated exports of the 1st consignment of value-added products derived from Jackfruit, Passion fruit and Nutmeg. The products are sourced from farmers in Thrissur, Kerala.

APEDA told NRI Affairs that 16 products had been shipped to Melbourne. These products have a shelf life of more than one year.

The Government of India established the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December 1985.

APEDA facilitated exports to Australia have been steadily increasing. For example, in 2018-19, it exported 112,827.46 metric tons to Australia, worth USD 160.29 million. In 2020-21, the export increased to 157,342.26 metric tons, which was worth USD 217.53.

Basmati Rice remains the most significant export to Australia, while fruits and vegetables such as fresh onions and mangoes are also exported.

The products exported to Melbourne, Australia from Chalakkudy, Thrissur, Kerala are as follows:

1. Jackfruit Squash.

 2. Jackfruit Powder

 3. Jackfruit Dried

 4. Jackfruit Puttu Powder
