Indian man, charged for blasphemy, returns home from Saudi Arab

Indian-man who was charged with blasphemy and for posting derogatory messages about Mecca and the king of Saudi Arabia on Facebook was released from a Saudi Jail.

Harish Bangera returned to India after 20 months. He arrived at the Bengaluru airport after being released from the Saudi jail.

His wife, daughter and friends welcomed Bangera before proceeding to his hometown Kundapur in the Udupi district of Karnataka.

BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje also welcomed Bangera on Twitter.

Bangera had been working in Saudi Arabia almost for six years. He had visited his home in 2019 before being arrested on 20 December the same year.

An air-conditioning technician in Dammam, Bangera, was arrested for posting an allegedly derogatory post on Facebook against Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Mohammad bin Salman and the community.

He had claimed that his account was hacked. The Udupi district police had filed a charge sheet in connection with the arrest of two men for hacking his social media account.
