In a press release today, Human Rights Watch (HRW), an international non-governmental organisation dedicated to advocating for human rights, called for an immediate and thorough investigation into alleged overseas murder plots linked to India. The organisation, headquartered in New York City, issued the statement on December 15, 2023, urging Indian authorities to take prompt action to address the serious allegations.

The HRW statement highlighted concerns raised in an article published on their official website. The article, titled “India: Investigate Alleged Overseas Murder Plots,” details disturbing information regarding suspected involvement of Indian entities in plots to commit murders abroad. The organisation emphasised the gravity of such allegations and underscored the need for a transparent and impartial inquiry to ascertain the facts.

According to the HRW report, the alleged overseas murder plots involve individuals or groups with purported ties to India. The organisation expressed deep concern over the potential violations of international law and human rights associated with such activities. HRW called on Indian authorities to collaborate with international agencies, if necessary, to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

In the statement, HRW emphasised the importance of upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights, both domestically and internationally. The organisation urged the Indian government to take immediate steps to address the allegations and hold those responsible accountable if the claims are substantiated.

As the news gains attention, it is expected that the international community will closely monitor developments related to the investigation. Human Rights Watch reiterated its commitment to monitoring human rights issues globally and holding governments accountable for any violations.

The call for an investigation by Human Rights Watch comes at a time when scrutiny of alleged extraterritorial activities is on the rise, emphasising the need for governments to uphold human rights standards in all aspects of their operations, both within their borders and beyond.
