On August 18, 2021, Ontario held its first round of Invitations for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) and issued invitations to apply to candidates in the Expression of Interest system pool who may qualify for the Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate streams.

“You may apply to these streams if you received an invitation to apply on August 18, 2021,” said the state in a statement on its website.

The Canadian state invited 402 international students to apply for the Masters Graduate stream. The minimum score for this invitation was 39.

For the PhD Graduate stream, 77 candidates have been invited with EOI scores of 17 and above.

How the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) works

This program is for workers who:

  • have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory
  • want to live in that province, and
  • want to become permanent residents of Canada

Each province and territoryFootnote* has its own “streams” (immigration programs that target certain groups) and requirements. For example, in a program stream, provinces and territories may target:

  • students
  • business people
  • skilled workers
  • semi-skilled workers
