On Day 7 at the Tokyo Paralympics, Indian Para shooter Singhraj Adhana added the 8th medal in the Indian medal tally with a bronze medal in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event with a final score of 216.8, behind China’s Chao Yang (237.9) and Xing Huang (237.5).
The Indian contingent at the Tokyo Paralympics is on a dream run, India has already secured a record medal haul at the events with several athletes to still compete in the different events. On Day 7, Indian Para shooter Singhraj Adhana added the 8th medal in the Indian medal tally.
Adhana won a bronze medal in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event with a final score of 216.8, behind China’s Chao Yang (237.9) and Xing Huang (237.5). The bronze was earned by Adhaan in a close contest with China’s Xiaolong Lou.
After the 18th shot, only four shooters were left with Singhraj in 3rd place with a score of 178.1, followed by China’s Xiaolong Lou in fourth place with 177.5 points. Singhraj shot a 9.1 in the 19th shot and on the other hand, Lou shot a 10.4, placing him in the third position. But, Singhraj composed himself for the 20th shot and aimed a 9.6 which was not good but Xiaolong shot an 8.6 which saw his exit from the competition and ensured bronze for Singhraj.
The grit that Singhraj showed in the finals is just inspiring and it shows the determination of an athlete to win a medal for the nation. The qualification round for Singhraj was fine but he seized his chance in the finals. Whereas, Indian para shooter Manish nailed in the qualifications of the same event but was unable to capitalize on the momentum for a podium finish.
Manish Narwal nails qualifications but falls short in the final
In the qualification round, Manish Narwal and Singhraj Adana qualified for the Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 final. Manish finished on the top spot in the qualification round with a score of 575. Whereas, Singhraj finished at the 6th position with a combined score of 569. Another Indian para shooter, Deepender Singh finished at the 10th spot but was unable to qualify as only the top eight shooters advance to the finals.
Other results of Day 7:
- Bhavina Patel and Sonal Patel went down against Chinese pair Zhou Ying and Zhang Bian by 2-11, 4-11, 2-11 in the Table Tennis Women’s doubles Class 4-5 quarterfinal.
- Indian Para Archer Rakesh Kumar went down against Xinliang AI by 143-145 in the individual compound open quarterfinal match.
- Bhagyashri finished 7th in Shot Put F34 Final with her personal best throw of 7.0m.
- Indian Para-athlete Simran Sharma missed out on the qualifications of Women’s 100m T13 finals. She finished in 5th position.
