On Sunday evening, the news of the tragic death of a 28-year-old singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moose Wala, has shaken the music industry and his fans across the world. Sidhu was shot by unidentified people while travelling in Punjab’s Mansa district.
The social media pages with flooded with fans and popular personalities in India and abroad expressing grief. Canadian rapper Drake took to Instagram and shared a photo of Sidhu with his mother and wrote ‘RIP Moose’.
Sidhu had begun his music career in Canada. After his graduation, the singer released his first song “G Wagon” while he was in Canada, and had also performed live in several Canadian music shows. It is assumed that Drake, who is from Canada may have been familiar with his work.
Meanwhile, Canadian comedian and actress Lily Singh dedicated a post to Sidhu Moosewala. She asked her global audience to stream his music. She wrote, “Absolutely devastating and upsetting news. To my global audience that may not be familiar, today a young legend in the Punjabi music industry was killed. If you see tribute images of him today, please don’t keep scrolling, but rather take a moment to stream the music of Sidhu Moose Wala.”
Canada had a huge role in Sidhu Moose Wala’s career as he rose to international stardom on a string of hits recorded after moving to Canada as an international student. Sidhu used to capture the essence of the country in his songs. He studied at Sheridan College and Humber College in Canada.
According to Sidhu Moose Wala’s fans, he had a unique blending of North American and Punjabi elements that set him apart in the music world and helped make him an international sensation.
Meanwhile, the death has triggered his fans and they demanding justice for their icon.
Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar has claimed responsibility for the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala, the police are looking into the role of those associated with Lawrence Bishnoi, of whose gang Brar is a part. Many such associates, police said, are already behind bars in and around Delhi. Police officials have confirmed that they have been investigating Brar for allegedly planning murders and attempts to murder from Canada.
“Today, Moose Wala was killed in Punjab, I, Sachin Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi take the responsibility. It’s our work. Moose Wala’s name surfaced in our brother Vikramjit Singh Middukhera and Gurlal Brar’s murder, but the Punjab Police did not take any action against him. We also came to know that Moose Wala was also involved in the encounter of our associate Ankit Bhadu. Moose Wala was working against us. Delhi Police had taken his name but Moose Wala used his political power and saved his skin each time,” Goldi Brar had reportedly written in a social media post.
The officials further said that the Bishnoi and his gang have criminal records in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, with Bishnoi, lodged in a Rajasthan jail, still managing to run his gang from inside.
Sidhu Moose Wala who was shot in broad daylight had more than 10.8 million YouTube subscribers and had won several Brit Asia TV Music Awards. He produced hits that charted in Canada, the UK and New Zealand and had also launched his own music label.
